Southwest Landscapes

It's my slowest time of year for pet portraits, so I'm spending some time increasing my confidence in Rebelle (my Corel Painter replacement) software by painting landscapes.

I really enjoy painting cliffs and rocks, so I dug into my collection of vacation photos of the southwest to use as reference images. In particular, I looked at my shots from Arches National Park, Bryce, and Kodachrome State Park.

My goal was to create the impression of evening light reflecting off the cliffs, rocks, and formations in bright yellows, oranges and reds.

Simple enough. The images below are my paintings presented in order of creation.

Ultimately I hope to place these for sale as prints here on sigmadog.com as well as one or two other outlets.
