When I first started blogging back in (I think) 2005 or so, I knew it was going to be an occasional thing. Having my own small home-based business took (and still takes) much of my time. With that in mind, I named my blog Almost Daily, as that was my somewhat optimistic posting goal. My blogging output eventually settled down to something closer to “almost weekly”, but I wasn’t going to change the name.
I kept it alive and active for twelve or thirteen years.
Three years ago, just after the election of Donald J. Trump, the online world was full of acrimony and division. As someone who voted for Trump (because the alternative was Clinton and that’s all I need to say), I tried to rationally engage with some particularly virulent Trump haters and, after being called at various times a Nazi, a moron and a white supremacist. I decided it was time for me to no longer give a shit about life online.
So I killed Almost Daily.
But the itch to have an online voice remained. The Missus wasn’t interested in my opinions, and the dogs would listen, but not offer any comments. So I re-started blogging, this time under the moniker Cranky Old Fart.
It didn’t take long to realize that name was… well… a little off-putting, but I didn’t care, figuring it was just me shouting at the clouds.
In 2018 I started a second site, PetArtWorks.com for pet portraits and mostly dog art. It also included a blog.
Now I was running two blogs, with enough content output for half a blog. It was a recipe for disaster.
So late last year I started thinking about how I would combine my two sites into one. In late December, I got a wild hair and moved Sigmadog.com to a new host. In the process I archived all my old content and vowed to re-build the site from scratch, incorporating PetArtWorks into the mix. It was a way to make things easier to manage as well as save some money in the long run.
It also meant the return of Almost Daily.
The online world is still acrimonious and divided. Even more so now. But as I’ve endured these last couple years, I’ve developed the uncanny ability to not give a shit what other people think.
And I’m happy to finally have Almost Daily, my one and only blog, in a single location to present my art, opinions, and poop jokes to the world.
